2006

January 1st, 2006 - The New Years morning starts off quietly till 0904 hrs when Pineville and Carolina Fire Departments were alerted to a fire in the laundry room of the Hampton Inn.  Pineville Engine's 2 and 3 arrived quickly on scene to find an extinguished fire in the first floor laundry room.  After ventilating the first floor and investigating for any extension, all crews cleared the scene at 0933 hrs.

January 5th, 2006 - Possible structure fire a Karen's Beautiful Things


 

January 6th, 2006 - Pineville and Carolina Fire Departments were dispatched at 2018 hrs. for a possible structure fire at 288 Eden Circle.  Captain J. Brod arrived on scene within a few minutes of being dispatched and advised of a one story residential structure with nothing visible and assumed command.  The residents advised that they had smoke coming out of the light fixture in the bathroom.  Pineville Engine 2 arrived on scene shortly after and assisted in investigation of the house.  After removing the mirror and part of the wall in the bathroom, crews found that the cause of the 'smoke' was a busted hot water pipe. 
All units cleared at 2047 hrs.


 

 

January 8th - During the early morning hours of January 8th Pineville Fire Department was dispatched
for a traffic accident with entrapment at the 10700 block of Pineville Rd. in front of CarMax.  Pineville Engine 3 and Chief Griffin arrived on scene and confirmed entrapment of one patient in a Chevy Tahoe.  Chief Griffin assumed command and Pineville Engine 3 pulled the pin-in line and assisted with assessing the patient with Medic.   Pineville Squad 8 arrived on scene shortly after and began extricating the patient from the drivers seat.  After removing the door and rolling the dash, the patient was freed and placed on a backboard for transport to CMC.  All units were cleared from the scene a 0447 hrs.

February 22nd - Pineville and Carolina were alerted to a kitchen fire inside of a newly built townhouse.  Dispatcher could only advise that someone called 911 screaming for help and that they had a kitchen fire and then hung up.  Pineville Engine 3 arrived onscene 11:24 to find a 2 story townhouse with heavy smoke conditions.  Witnesses on scene advised that the fire out, Engine 3's crew entered the home with smoke down to knee level and found no fire, high heat conditions, and a house full of smoke.  The fire had been placed under control by a contractor and a garden house through the back door.  Engine 3's crew began ventilation via opening windows and setting up positive pressure fan and then started to overhaul the stove and cabinet that had been severely damaged by the fire.
 

All crews cleared the call at 12:30 with no injuries to civilians or firefighters.



 

May 4th - After a long quiet morning and afternoon Pineville Fire Department was again put to the test and dispatched to 4 calls within 30 minutes of each other.  With the first call coming in at 15:31 hrs for Pineville EMS to respond for a traffic accident on Pineville-Matthews Rd. in front of the McDonalds.  Pineville units arrived on scene to be cancelled by CMPD.  Minutes after clearing Pineville Fire was dispatched for a fuel spill in the parking lot of Carolina Place Mall.  Pineville 12 responded and arrived on scene to find a vehicle that had over filled the fuel tank with fuel spilling out.  At 15:54 hrs, Pineville Fire and EMS were alerted to a possible over turned Tractor-Trailer on the westbound (inner loop)  I-485 at South Blvd.  Pineville Engine 2 was immediately diverted to the traffic accident.  Assistant Chief Jennings arrived on scene along with Engine 2 and Medic,  established command and advised there was a overturned Tractor-Trailer and several other cars involved.  Crews quickly mopped up the situation on Carolina Place and returned to the Station and responded with Squad 8 to the traffic accident.  On arrival of Squad 8, command advised the crew that there was one patient still in the overturned truck with injuries and to begin extrication operations to remove the patient and had Engine 2's crew pulled a line off the truck for safety.   Capt. Brod along with Capt. Tobin and FF Sherard began the operation and with in a few minutes and the use of hydraulic tools made the windshield opening larger to fit a backboard inside the cab and extricate the patient.  The patient was then immobilized and loaded for transport to the hospital by Medic.  While this operation was being handled, another call alerted Pineville EMS to another medical which a crew standing by at the station handled with out any problems.   All crews were back in service and at the station by 17:15 hrs.



 

September 9th -  Pineville and Carolina Fire Departments were alerted to a residential structure fire on Lighthouse Ln. in Pineville.  Pineville Engine 2 along with Chief Griffin arrived on scene to find a one story
house with light smoke visible.  After further investigation Chief Griffin found a fire in the kitchen extending into the back family room.   FF Brent Strong and FF Matt Blanton extended an 1 3/4" line to began suppression of the fire.  The fire was quickly brought under control with one line in operation.  Units from Pineville and Carolina began overhaul and assisted the family with salvaging as much personal items as they could.  The fire was under investigation by the Mecklenburg County Fire Marshals Office.

September 10th - Carolina and Pineville Fire Departments were alerted to a possible vehicle fire inside a garage.  As units were responding, Dispatchers updated the departments with a confirmed working fire from numerous calls and possible extension to a second house.  Pineville Engine 2 turned off Main St. on to Lancaster Hwy to see a large column of black smoke from the area of the house and relayed this information to all units.  Chief Griffin and Pineville Engine 2 arrived onscene to find a 2500 sq. ft. house with heavy fire showing and extending to a second house....

September 17th - Pineville Fire Department was alerted to assist Steele Creek Fire Department onscene of a church fire.  Steele Creek's Chief requested for Pineville to respond with their Ladder and manpower.  Chief Griffin arrived onscene first from Pineville and reported to command.  Pineville Ladder 1 arrived onscene and was given the assignment to ladder the structure in division C and ventilate and check for extension in the attic.  Chief Griffin along with the crew from Pineville Engine 2 took over salvage and overhaul operations on the kitchen and sanctuary.  Majority of the fire was held to the kitchen with smoke and water damage to the sanctuary.  No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.


 


Congratulations

October 4th - Congratulations goes out FF/EMT Scott Robinson and his wife Jaime for the birth of their

daughter Brooke Louise.  Brooke weighed in at 8lbs. and 7ozs and was 21 inches long.  Both mother and daughter are doing well.


 

November 4th - Pineville Fire Department held their annual Open House to allow the public to come in and learn more about who we are and what we do.  Along with Pineville Police Department and the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department, the Fire Department displayed equipment, talked about fire prevention, and held various demonstrations.  Between running numerous calls and trying to chase all the children around the fire station,  We were able to demonstrate a technical rope rescue using Ladder 1 and a vehicle extrication.  Surprisingly during the middle of the extrication demonstration, Pineville Fire Department responded to a vehicle accident on South Blvd at I-485 where we had to extricate a patient.

 


 

Congratulations

November 28th - Congratulations goes out to FF/EMT Paul Sullivan and his wife for the birth of their daughter Ainsley Marie.  Ainsley with born the night of November 28th at 22:26 hrs. weighing in at 7 lbs. 9 ozs and 19 inches long.  Mother and baby are doing well.


 


December 16th -
During the early morning hours of Saturday, December 16th Pineville EMS was alerted to a vehicle accident on Pineville-Rock Hill Rd. at the Stateline.  Pineville EMS 12 and its crew arrived on scene to find 2 vehicles in an head-on collision with heavy damage to both vehicle.  FF/EMT Paul Sullivan initiated patient care and found that one patient was entrapped due to the damage to the front of the vehicle and door.  The door was 'popped' and the patient was removed and placed in spinal.  Pineville Engine 2 arrived on scene to assist with fluid control and extra man power.  All units retuned to service at 08:40 hrs.  Units from York County Sheriffs  Dept., Fort Mill Rescue, and Piedmont EMS assisted Pineville Fire and EMS, Pineville PD, and Medic.  Scene pictures

 

Later that afternoon Pineville Fire and EMS along with Medic were alerted to a vehicle accident with one vehicle possibly  overturned on Lancaster Hwy.  Pineville EMS 12, Engine 2, and Squad 8 arrived on scene to find a 4 vehicle accident and 1 vehicle overturned.  All person were out of the vehicle and no injuries were reported.  Medic and Squad 8  went be in service while Engine 2 and EMS 12 remained on scene taking care of fluids and assisting in traffic control with Pineville PD.  Pineville cleared shortly after as the wreckers showed up to clear the vehicle from the roadway.  Scene pictures


 


December 19th -
Just after 04:30 am Pineville Fire was alerted to a vehicle fire with possible explosion in the parking of Coach's Bar and Grill.  Engine 3 arrived on scene with a fully involved vehicle next to other vehicles.  Engine 3's crew quickly advanced the bumper line to extinguish the fire and found that we had a victim still inside.  Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal's Office along with Pineville Police Dept. are investigating.
